Knowing me, knowing you (…I can’t hear you)
I’ve kind of taken the long way round to boudoir photography. I’m a 48 year old, married man from Sussex. I live with my wife Clare in Haywards Heath. We’ve been together for around 20 years. She does something with numbers and contracts that I don’t understand. She works from home about half the time. We have a labrador called Toby. You will definitely meet him if you come for a shoot.
I take photos!
I’ve always had careers within the media, but it’s a very broad spectrum and I’ve had a varied career to date. I’ve been a teacher, a production assistant in the film industry and I’ve worked for a website of a national supermarket, among other things.
For around the last 10 years I’ve been an independent photographer and video maker.
I actually started as a brand promotion photographer for small businesses.
Right at the start I was setting up test shoots with models to improve my skills for clients, and make sure I could actually communicate with the person in front of the lens. By nature I’m a pretty introverted person. I struggle in large crowds, but I love talking to individuals. Connecting with them on a human level.
It was during all these model shoots that I realised that the shots that seemed to have the most creative flair, were those that were closest to what I now know is “boudoir photography”. Sometimes my shots of professional models gave something more “real” than other photographers they work with.
Getting lighting and composition right is difficult. Getting it right when there’s a person also in the shot that’s definitely intended to be the star of the shot, doubly so. I enjoy that challenge. It fits my personality type.

This is what I look like as of Friday 9th January 2026
I’ve always described myself as a technical creative. That split seems to work well for me. Taking beautiful photos is about learning the techie stuff well enough that when you come to it on the day, you can basically forget about it and make the subject feel the most important…because they are!
I’m not the fastest photographer. I’m not the most technically proficient. I mostly try to let the work speak for itself. That said, I am an open book, so if you have questions please ask because I’m very happy to answer them.
